The Top 5 Weirdest WiFi Devices (Number 3 is jawdropping!) 970 524 Sebastian Hillinger

Christmas is approaching – even faster than you think!  So we’ve decided to have a little fun with the madness. We’ve even included a super click bait-y title in line with the holiday spirit!

Of course, some of these WiFi connected devices are pretty ridiculous, but we’ve done this roundup with a purpose in mind. Like it or not, WiFi is everywhere. Between the ubiquity of WiFi, and the security concerns like the recent WPA2 breach, it’s more important than ever to offer fast, reliably and, most importantly, secure, WiFi (we can reccommend a solution if you’re looking).

That being said, here’s our roundup of the Top 5 Weirdest Devices to Connect to your WiFi (not only is Number 3 jawdropping, but also crushes it).

Ready? Set? Shop!

1. Egg Tray

Granted, there’s nothing better than eggs for your Sunday brunch after a long night at the pub. Rich in protein and part of the human diet for six million years (even I was impressed when I read that!). Every egg-lover out there rejoice, things are going to change for you!

Available on Amazon, you can now order your own smart egg tray called the Egg Minder. It holds up to 14 eggs and is able to send you push notifications in case you run out of eggs. Another great feature the Egg Minder offers, is an alarm system that informs if your eggs go bad.

Due to this invention, we are all able to sleep tight at night again and stop worrying about our eggs in the fridge. How could we survived for six million years without it? Opening the fridge and having a look if there are some eggs left has never been an option for me in the first place.

2. Smart Salt Dispenser

The next invention comes all the way from California to not only revolutionise your dining habits, but also promises to bring a “Centrepiece” to your home (whatever that means…)

A smart salt dispenser was launched under the name of Smalt (Smart & Salt, get it?). The opportunities this salt dispenser provides you with are infinite. You can use it as Bluetooth speaker, as ambiance light and – you guessed it – Smalt even helps with seasoning your food. All you need to do is shake your phone or push buttons in the device itself and your Smalt will release some salt, how handy! Feels like a salty Alexa.

3. Hushme

Have you ever been out in public, discussing dark Illuminati secrets with your best friend that no one should overhear?

Yeah, me neither.

Well, for those of you out there who have this frequent problem – good news! Hushme is here to make your life a lot easier. It is a personal acoustic device that protects speech privacy in open space environments. It’s designed as a wearable facemask that covers your mouth and prevents any harmful secrets from leaking out. Furthermore, it has built-in speakers so you can use Hushme hands free and – bonus – use it as a portable wireless speaker.

If you’re planning for world domination with the rest of your Illuminati pals, you can checkout Hushme right here.

4. Smart Hairbrush

After a nuclear war, there would only be a few things left on this planet: cockroaches, Keith Richards and our beloved Nokia 3310. As part of Nokia, Withings teamed up with L’Oréal to design and launch the best hairbrush, full-stop. The Kérastase Hair Coach is one of a kind, able to measure your hairbrushing behaviour every day and helping to you master the ancient art of, um, brushing hair.  The smart hair brush collections user data and provides you with additional insight to learn about your “hair quality score” and brushing habits.

So what’s the secret behind the smart hairbrush? This masterpiece of grooming engineering boasts a microphone, 3-axis load cells, an accelerometer, a gyroscope and some conductivity sensors! You might be hyped already, but I didn’t even mention the best aspect about it: it’s waterproof! I wish we had this invention around earlier to even brush wet hair! What a time to be alive.

5. Smart Cutlery

“God in his wisdom has provided man with natural forks – his fingers. Therefore it is an insult to Him to substitute artificial metallic forks for them when eating.”

That was the modest opinion of St. Peter Damian on forks. But I’m sure if he lived today, he’d have a different view on the topic!

The company HAPI.com came up with a fork that will keep you from eating too fast by vibrating. The smart fork will track how much time you spend on a meal, the amount of “fork servings” per minute and uploads all your data to a personal dashboard. Eating more slowly helps to fight weight gain, digestive problems and gastric reflux.

Sorry, St. Peter Damian, I need to lose weight and get cutlery that’s smarter than my hands.

Let’s be serious

The market has been flooded with “smart” items throughout the last few years. Many new inventions were designed and launched more or less successfully and we enjoy seeing the market develop with such diversity. We had some fun with this article, but we wanted to provide you with at least one “real” device that might be interesting for you and your business.

Smart Thermostat

Running a business is never easy and brings a lot of responsibilities. Luckily, there are some solutions out there that are actually clever enough to take some workload off business owners and help simplify annoying tasks.

One of these inventions is the smart thermostat, Nest. The greatest attribute of this thermostat is its ability to learn. After using it for a week, it will learn what temperature you prefer at what time and is able to regulate it automatically. It’s not only an easy way to save energy (and money) but also just runs in the background and leaves more time for you to take care of your business.

Bring the Heat!

With great Power comes great Responsibility

We hope you got the point – the rapid development in the tech industry opens many doors. We’re not sure if every door needs to be opened and walked through via an app, but there are some great inventions out there that can actually help you to make your business more efficient, smarter and safer

But remember, all smart devices are only “smart” with a properly working WiFi connection. Furthermore, you need to be aware that more connected devices mean more opportunities to be hacked and you risk having an internal security breach.
