We made it! Thanksgiving is over, we survived the Black Friday madness, Cyber Monday was meh and now we’re ready to focus on what’s really important: Christmas!
It’s time to raid the basement for those dusty decorations, check if the fairy lights are still working and get into the Christmas spirit. The days are getting shorter, the wind colder and it’s absolutely justified to lean back on the couch, put on a fireplace-screensaver and pretend you’re in a little cottage in the woods. That is, if you live in Scotland, like us here at BLACKBX. Otherwise, enjoy your long summer days down south with the rest of the planet. We don’t care. 🙁
The great thing about Christmas is that absolutely everyone will eventually give in to the Christmas spirit, even the veteran Christmas haters. Sure, this time of the year can also be exhausting: seeing your in-laws, dealing with the family’s latest offspring and forgetting half of the presents you intended to get in the first place.
To make sure you can focus on the bright side of Christmas (friends, food, wine, food, presents, food, not necessarily in that order), we wanted to introduce you to a few Apps that are worth having a look at to make your Christmas time even more pleasant.
1. Santa’s Bag
Let’s face the most common Christmas disaster first – shopping for presents. It’s one of those things you promise yourself to start earlier next year (but never actually do). Shopping for Christmas presents is a long and exhausting process, starting from gathering ideas, comparing offers and ending with spending too much money. Well, worry no more, the app “Santa’s Bag” is here to help you this holiday season and take some of the stress away. It enables users to set budgets per person, create wish lists, track your shopping progress and share all your unique ideas for presents. The app is designed to help you stay in control of all your purchases.
If you’re fed up with being late and forgetting half of the presents, check out “Santa’s Bag” right here. Although, you know… you’re already late to the game.
2. How the Grinch stole Christmas
This is a real classic. We put it on the list for all of you out there that expect to spend time with kids and need a little support entertaining them. The app “How the Grinch stole Christmas” is made for younger children who enjoy a good read and features the iconic illustrations from the Dr. Seuss classic.
The app guides you through exciting stories of why and how the Grinch tried to ruin Christmas and entails endless features. While reading, your kids can explore new vocabulary and spelling, simply by tapping on objects in the pictures. Furthermore, you can find hidden easter eggs throughout the story that will lead you to fun mini games. All in all, the app provides children with great entertainment, education and holds quite some surprises to discover along the way.
I know, I know, the suspense is almost unbearable and you want to know if the evil Grinch succeeds in preventing Christmas from happening. I’m sorry, but the only way to find out is to have a look at the app for Android and iOS.
Let’s find a solution to the next common Christmas problem: convincing your guests you’ve actually learned how to cook. I know that this is quite a hard one but there is a nice little app that might give you just the inspiration you need.
As some of you must have realised already, there is indeed a similarity between this app and the dating app “Tinder”. And you are right, both apps work the same way. In Tender, as in Tinder, you can swipe right or left to choose which meals you like and which you’re rather unlikely to ever prepare. By swiping right you add meals to your collection and automatically save the recipe for a dish in your cookbook. Furthermore, you can add filters for vegetarian or vegan dishes.
It’s a great way to discover new recipes and the app will definitely help you to find the suitable meal for a nice Christmas dinner. Tinder for Turkeys, some might say.
4. One Day
Christmas is not only about stress and proving your cooking skills, It’s also about reflecting on the past year. Therefore, a rather unusual app made it to this list, “One Day”. The app was launched by Google and offers users different projects for possible donations. Users can choose if and for what they would like to give little donations of minimum $1. The projects range from educational support to environmental protection and reforestation. All non-profit organisations are verified by Google and the IRS. Furthermore, all private contact info is hidden and discretion is guaranteed.
Generosity is contagious and Christmas is the right time of the year to reflect and share some love.
Find more information about “One Day” right here, for Android and iOS. Double your impact by inspiring others to match your donation, sharing is caring!
